Ending the Drug Wars: Report of the LSE Expert Group on the Economics of Drug Policy.

This report published by the London School of Economics (LSE), analyses the negative results produced from the so called “war on drugs" until now: mass imprisonment, highly repressive policies, enormous levels of corruption and political destabilization in diverse countries of the world, high rates of violence in Latin America and a systematic violation of the human rights around the world.  The report is presented with a prologue signed by five Nobel prizes winners from Europe, Latin America and United States of American, as well as diverse professors from the Universities of Oxford (UK), Princeton and Columbia (USA). The report aims to contribute relevant data for ending the “war against the drug” and appeals to the need to redirect resources towards effective policies based on scientific evidence, supported by rigorous economic analyses, and in agreement with principles of public health, harm reduction, reduction of the impact of illegal markets, extending access to treatment, minimizing the problematic use of drugs, rigorous monitoring, regulatory experimentation and a firm commitment towards human rights.
